As Pipe Sergeant of Arbroath Pipe Band, Craig Weir is probably Scotland’s hardest working piper. He plays the bagpies at some of the country’s biggest events; from the MOBO’s to composing a piece for a visit from the Dalai Lama. Craig is passionate about our national instrument.
He’s serenaded the likes of the Queen, Alex Salmond, Steve David and Gordon Brown, played with Twin Atlantic and even written a tune for Cheryl Cole.
Craig plays the pipes to rock and pop music through his band Gleadhraich, this year’s Angus Cultural Ambassadors, and he is set to introduce our national instrument to dubstep.
After a tour of China as a guest of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra last year he has now secured bookings all over the world. A champion of community piping, he brings new audiences to the bagpipes and inspires dozens of youngsters to take it up.
