This inspiring group of volunteers, known as YSL, try and bridge the gap between the Scots in Pollokshields and the ethnic minority community by educating everyone about the beliefs and values of Scottish Sikhs. Working with local schools, community organisations and public institutions to promote awareness of cultures and celebrate diversity the group hope to educate school pupils on Panjabi culture and the contributions Sikhs have made in Scotland.
They act as tour guides for schools to bring pupils to the Gurdwara (Sikh spiritual centre) where they can also sample Panjabi cuisine and participate in a rendition of classical Sikh music.
Pupils and teachers have commented on the vibrancy of this volunteer-led program and recognised the work the network plays in celebrating a multi-cultural Scotland.
