The People and Planet group from Edinburgh have been campaigning for years on environmental and social justice issues. They were instrumental in bringing fair trade to Scotland, campaigning for Edinburgh to become the first fair-trade university in Scotland. They run fairtrade workshops in local schools and host regular events to build public awareness and produced a young people’s manifesto for last year’s local council elections
On top of the campaigning work, they are involved in lots of local projects building community sustainability including hosting a green week each year with DIY bike repair workshops and give-aways of free recycled food. The group host weekly educational meetings which could be anything from film screenings to taught workshops. These usually explore a range of environmental and human issues such as extreme energy water management and sustainable food production.
