TAY @ Hebridean Celtic Festival
In July I visited the Hebridean Celtic Festival as part of the Truth About Youth project to find out what the current perception of young people is in Stornoway. I was also keen to see if we could do anything to help challenge any negative perceptions that currently exist.
The Hebridean Celtic Festival is held annually and brings together the best talented folk artists from all over the world to Stornoway. Unlike many other festivals where the majority of people who are there are 18-20, the Hebridean Celtic Festival has a more even spread of people of all ages attending. This provided us with a great opportunity to find out what the adult population think of young people and also to discuss whether the views held were fair or not.
One of the stand out acts of the weekend, The Holy Ghosts, perform on the main stage.
We did this by asking members of the public a series of questions about young people in their area. Overall the response was fantastic. I think it is safe to say that the people we spoke to in Stornoway had a strong opinion on young people and were more than happy to talk to us about this.
